Harvest turned stagnation into 12% growth in six months

Harvest has built its position on stories and editorial quality. The magazine’s ambition has always been to devote as much time as possible to journalism. But growth had stagnated. With a subscriber base flatlining at around 2,850 users, and limited resources for technical development, Harvest struggled to release the commercial potential of its content. They needed a modern platform to professionalize subscription management without requiring technical expertise from the editorial team.

Challenge

The previous technical setup was characterized by rigidity that hindered commercial development:

  • High churn: Churn lay at approx. 7% monthly, corresponding to a loss of 50 subscribers per week.
  • Technical limitations: The old system lacked the functionality and flexibility to execute effective measures against churn or drive new sales.
  • Missing payment solutions: The absence of Vipps integration created unnecessary friction in the purchasing process.
  • Fragmented data: Customer data and newsletter recipients were scattered across different systems, complicating targeted communication.

Solution

Harvest migrated to Subrite in May 2025 to consolidate operations and data:

  • Vipps integration: Implemented to simplify payments and automate renewals.
  • Group subscriptions: Introduction of family access to increase value for subscribers.
  • Data consolidation: Gathering subscribers and newsletter recipients in a single interface for a holistic overview.
  • Automation: Setup of automated flows to reduce churn and manual maintenance.

Result

After six months of operation with Subrite, the numbers show a clear impact:

  • Growth: The number of paying members has increased by 12%.
  • Reduced churn: Churn has been reduced from 7% to approx. 5% per month.
  • Efficiency: End-user support inquiries have dropped to under 10 cases per week.
  • Stabilization: Net subscriber growth has replaced previous stagnation.

Conclusion

The transition to Subrite has freed Harvest from technical administration and manual processes. With a stabilized subscriber base and control over revenue streams, the editorial team now has the capacity to look ahead. Focus has shifted from maintaining the existing base to pure product development, where launching both a podcast and a print magazine are now viewed as realistic growth areas.

The collaboration with Subrite has been an important and right decision. It allows us to let Subrite handle what they are experts at, while we focus on the editorial work and free up more time for what we do best: writing the stories our readers want.
